Provisional standfirst. Two sentences that open the piece and say what it is about, without judging yet.
Provisional text. A first paragraph at the length a real Field Note paragraph has: four or five sentences, one observation, one thought about it, one transition. Nothing here is a statement about Rio de Janeiro. The paragraph only tests measure, leading and the switch between running text and image.
Provisional text. A second paragraph, a little shorter, so the ratio of long to short paragraphs becomes visible.
A subheading at realistic length
Provisional text. After the subheading comes the longest paragraph of the piece. It may run to six or seven sentences, because Field Notes need room for observation. Again: no claim, only shape. Sentence lengths alternate, short after long, so the rhythm holds. It ends with a sentence that hands over to the next paragraph.
Provisional ending. A paragraph that brings the piece to a close and points to a Place without forcing a conclusion.
